Um... I don't know if this disc is old hat on this listserv(in which case I apologize for even bringing it up), but it is most certainly worth checking out, particularly if, like me, you see alot of IDM as lacking a bit in the humor department. I'm wary of describing the content of the Attitude CD, since it violates about eight million separate intellectual property laws. It is a compilation, and the first track appeared on another Tigerbeat comp (Kid 606 and Friends, I think). The theme of the disc is, "IDM v. NWA and derivative acts". On a personal note, I came to this listserv through a process that began with the Funkstorung "Reunited" 12" remix. I find the hip-hop influence in Autechre, Funkstorung and Kid 606 to be just overwhelming, and I'm just generally interested in what the level of IDM-ish/hip-hop interaction is among the readers of this list... Also, Kid 606 and friends appear in the SF Guardian this week. At least Amanda Norwinski didn't do the interview. Scott ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? well my partner and i share a studio with a hip hop crew, we use the exact same tools and very similar methods for creating the music, it's just a question of the aesthetics of the resulting tracks i think. there's not really a division between the music we make and the hip hop stuff, more of a wide range ... some of our stuff could be classified as hip hop depending on how loose your definition is. i probably attend more hip hop shows than i do "idm" shows and i really wish "idm" acts would try more to capture the energy of much of the hip hop i've seen. unfortunately the lack of vocals and vocalists leads to the widest rift between the two classifications. much of the time, as soon as you put rhymes or vocals on top of beats, it's immediately transformed into "trip hop" or straight up hip hop. which is not a bad thing, i suppose josh -- String Theory : Digital Music for Humans http://www.enteract.com/~yoshi/index.cgi On Thu, 10 Aug 2000, Scott Pactor wrote:

In case anyone's interested, Kid 606 is interviewed in the latest issue of VICE magazine.. the one that features I.K.U. (Cyber-delic Japanese porn movie) on the front cover. Yup, it's VICE magazine... so expect your typical VICE magazine questions. (Possibly the best toilet-reading magazine ever made). ======================================================================= Brian MacDonald <brianm@kuci.org> KUCI 88.9 fM in Irvine, CA -- Orange County ======================================================================= --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
